Oh My Amsterdam

Hello! This weekend my friends Molly, Nikki, Danelle and I took an adventure to Amsterdam and it really surprised me in so many ways. We left Friday morning and arrived mid afternoon and when we arrived one of the first things I noticed was the use of bikes. There is the main walking road and then a bike path all around the city that is used by many people. If you don't watch out, you could end up getting hit by one of them...not that happend to me or anything :) Upon arrival we of course treated ourselves immediatly to a belgian waffle with chocolate (not our last) We then met up with some of Nikkis friends from Australia and had dinner at a nice sit down resturant and were off to explore the red light district. It really shocked me the fine line between a city that has so much to offer in the way of architecture, the beautiful canals, the thriving tourist venue it takes in and the history behind it and then the darker side of the red light district. I've literally never seen anything like it, but it was interesting to see literally two different sides to a city

On Saturday we ate breakfast at our hotel and were off to the Anne Frank museum which was really cool in the way the actual musuem was shaped like her house so you got to see the actual bookcase her family his behind and the layouts of the rooms as you climbed the stairs. One of my favorite parts of the trip for sure. We then spent most of the afternoon touring around the city. Danelle and I bought a loaf of olive bread and some dutch and gouda cheese from a local outside market and it was probably the best lunch I've had in along time, loved the cheese there! At night we explored some of the bars and pubs around the area which was also a lot of fun!

Sunday was a relaxing day since not a lot of shops were open so we started out the day in the Van Gough museum which is great for Van Gough fans! We took a walk through Vondel Park which was beautiful! After tea and many more belgian waffles we ended our trip with an amazing italian meal (seems to be a theme) in the middle of the city. Overall Amsterdam was very cool and I really got a feel how a lot of city functions and learned a lot about its history. I would not turn down an opportunity to go again :)
